The Tidal Bore: An Awesome Ocean Phenomenon
70Huge Transfer of Power from Ocean to River
The Amazon River flows Backwards?
Yes, during the tidal bore, it does indeed. That takes a huge amount of ocean power. During high tide when the river is at its lowest, the ocean surges into the river so strong it actually makes the river flow backward! River surfers ride the waves which sometimes last as long as 45 kilometers. When the earth, moon, and sun line up together in orbit, the natural pull on the tide is very strong. This creates the surge known as a Tidal Bore.
Someday, maybe someday soon, young physicists and scientists will discover how to harness the huge energy produced by Tidal Bores.
Right now, wave technology is expensive, cumbersome, confuses the fishies and damages shorelines and banks. At some point, however, I know without a doubt we will find a way to harvest what is seen as a destructive force and turn it into a positive green energy for us to use, respect, and harvest again and again, reducing our dependence on oil and our destruction of the oceans, our most abundance planetary resource.
Tidal Bores occur twice a year, near the time of full moon closest to fall and spring equinox. The equinox has long been a time of celebration for many cultures, and for good reason. Our fragile earth undergoes a great shift in energy at these two points. It is the ebb and flow of our very existence in this universe.
No surprise then that the tidal waves caused by these changes in the gravitational pull between the sun, moon and earth create such huge surges in our natural waters. Let us respect this natural occurrence, and learn to appreciate the enormous natural power it represents. This is one huge natural occurrence we can predict, observe, study, and perhaps, learn to benefit from.

i used to have a vcr tape where 2 of these tidal bores crossed each other and made a big 'X' can anyone help me to find location of the weird happening--maybe india? looked awesome--id like to see it again thanks
Excellent writing, Interesting information. Great videos and pictures. I love the ocean and my connection to nature. Thanks for making comments on my HUB and visiting me from Twitter. If you want more info on Dream Trips, just let me know...Gary.
